For Ottawa parents

Finding your child’s first daycare in Ottawa

Somewhere between the night feeds and the return-to-work date, there’s a daycare search to run. I help Ottawa parents understand how the system works, check their application, and plan where to apply.

What a CWELCC spot could save you

CWELCC caps licensed child care at $22 a day. Care outside the program often costs $50 or more. Tap your situation to see the difference.

Days of care a week

You could save about

$20,160

That’s about $560 a month.

An estimate at $22 versus $50 a day, about 48 weeks a year. Fees are set by the Province, and the current level is confirmed to December 31, 2026. Your own savings depend on your provider and schedule.

Why it matters

What a stalled search costs a family

The return-to-work date doesn’t move

Parental leave ends on a fixed date, and waitlists don’t follow it. When a space isn’t ready in time, one parent, most often the mother, pushes back her return, cuts her hours or leaves her job.

The backup often isn’t nearby

Many Ottawa families live far from grandparents and extended family. The help that once covered a gap of a few months often isn’t down the street anymore.

Spaces are limited, and that part isn’t in your control. What is: starting early, and making sure your application is set up to be found.

Worth knowing

Three things that quietly hold an application back

Each one is easy to miss, and quick to fix once you know it’s there.

A calendar with one past date crossed out, linked by a dotted line to a faded application card showing a pause symbol

Your start date can quietly expire

The portal won’t accept a start date in the past, and nothing warns you when yours lapses.

Two waitlists of different lengths side by side, each with one highlighted spot at a different place, separated by a not-equal sign

Number 150 isn’t what it seems

OneHSN isn’t one big queue. Each provider keeps its own list, so position numbers can’t be compared.

Licensed home child care agencies are part of CWELCC too, and many families never apply to them directly.

A second pair of eyes

What help can look like

When an application goes quiet, the cause is usually small. I look at your search with you, find it and fix it.

Personal help starts at $49.

1Tell me where you are

Not registered yet, registered months ago, or somewhere in between. The one-minute check is the easiest place to start.

2I check your application

From your screenshots: start date, age group, program types and provider picks. I never ask for your password.

3You get a plan with dates

Which centres and agencies to add, where to apply directly, and when to follow up, laid out in order.

Why I built this

I’ve been on the other side of this.

When my daughter was small, CWELCC didn’t exist yet, and I never found a licensed space. By the time my son came along, I had worked out how the system really works, and I landed a CWELCC space after about a month of searching. Since then I’ve helped other families along the way. DaycarePath puts everything I’ve learned in one place.

Start where it feels easiest

Take the one-minute check, or read the free guide first. Everything to start is free.

Your search stays yours. I don’t contact providers on your behalf, no provider pays me, and no one can promise a spot. Whether to accept an offer is always your call.
